15 May Half Term Events in Devon

It’s come around again! May Half Term is almost upon us and again it’s up to us Mum’s and Dad’s to make sure our little lovelies have an action packed week whether it’s out and about or at home. Here are 15 May Half Term Events in Devon that will hopefully keep everybody happy.

The weather is slightly odd at the moment, with one day blue skies and sunny and the next day (or even afternoon) it’s pouring down with rain so we’ve found some indoor and outdoor suggestions.

1. Animal Encounters with Chris Johnson – Prickly Ball Farm – Monday 29th May 11am – 1pm

Pop down and meet some creepy crawlies with talks and show and tell. As well as this, take the time to visit the rest of the animals for a child friendly farm experience.

October Half Term – Week 1

October Half Term – Week 1

October Halfterm

It’s the start of October half-term for most people, but we’re one week into our two week half-term holiday.

It doesn’t feel like Isabelle has been back at school and Ryan at college for less than five minutes, but this has been a welcome break away from work for me.

October Half-Term

This was Isabelle pretending that her scooter was a skateboard having just gone past the skatepark. Incidentally we passed a couple of mums with their kids, one riding one of her kids bikes whilst the other decided to have a go on her son’s skateboard.

Well, legs went a-flying and she very unladylike landed in a crumpled heap on the floor. But all was well as our wet dog ran over to investigate and gave her a very unwelcome wet sloppy kiss. Ha-ha the things we do to prove that we’re not passed it!

Having committed myself to a year of working full-time as well as running my own business and blogging commitments, the last time I had any block time off work was at the end of July which feels like an extremely long time ago.

As it’s not been officially half-term so far there hasn’t been a lot going on in terms of activities for Isabelle to do.

Ryan started working at Sainsbury’s with his first day being the start of their huge toy sale, so he got a real feel of the reality of working his butt off.

So what have we been up to?

Leisurely breakfasts and tea n toast in bed have been a regular occurrence, and it’s been a real treat not having to get up and dressed whilst keeping one eye on the clock before leaving at 7am each morning.

The ironing pile has increased – ha ha!

We’ve met up with friends and eat cake, we’ve walked the dog and been shopping.

We’ve done arts and crafts and cooking together.

October Half term

We had a day trip to Plymouth where we met up with a lovely lady from Theatre Royal – fingers crossed we might re-visit this visit in more depth.

We visited Dart’s Farm for cake and coffee (as well as sampling anything on offer which Isabelle loves to do) and sampled the most amazing curry (excluding Chris’ of course) from a lady called Bini from www.sweetcumin.co.uk based in Somerset.

I’ve added a lovely new range of Organic Baby Clothes from Jelly Babe Organics.

October Half Term

And today we went to the Pumpkin and Apple Day at West Town Farm which was lovely. We were a bit gutted that we didn’t get to try on of their pizzas made in front of you and cooked in a clay oven.

I’ve been way more productive this week , and things have been way more enjoyable.

We’re going to be slightly busier next week, but in a nice way!

February Half Term

This isn’t yet another post about how I can’t wait for the kids to go back to school or that they’re driving me insane.

Mine is a total rant about the unfairness that each and every school holiday (and a lot of weekends, and week days actually) we spend a big portion of it at home.

Not doing arts and crafts should it be a cold and rainy day or baking or in fact having friends round to play BUT slathering on the Vick’s, watching endless episodes or Peppa Pig, Ben and Holly and the odd Disney film whilst attempting to tempt Isabelle to eat even the most minuscule of meals.

IMG_1382

I ache from head to toe as I sit and cuddle her, and will her to get better.

We have a good couple of hours during the day some days but as the day goes on her temperature rises, the coughing gets worse followed by the sickness and she turns from being her lovely self to a stroppy, doesn’t want to do anything ball of heat and that’s when the clock watching begins.

Night times are the pits with her raised temperature and coughing which is nearly always followed by a bout of sickness which we are getting quite good at catching (but not always).

Isabelle doesn’t have a chronic illness. She catches each and every germ going from coughs, colds, sickness and tummy bugs.

We’re turning into THOSE parents who will phone to find out if there are any sniffles or such like before we allow playdates. Those are the parents that I used to have a silent snigger to myself at their over protectiveness who I’d clearly high five these days.

It’s not just the constant illnesses that get to us, but the exhaustion that comes hand in hand as we get up and down with her in the night, the changing of beds and nightclothes, and the knowing that no matter how many times she’s been up at night she’ll still be up at the crack of dawn to start the next day.

We’ve had this bout of illnesses since she was born and usually she’s most susceptible between November to March and then we get a bit of reprieve as the nicer weather sets in.

We’re hoping that she will grow out of it, but until then we’ll keep on going armed with Calpol, cough medicine, Vicks on the chest, back and feet, Piriton, Breath easy plug-in, warm bath, lemon and honey, airing the room, extra pillows……………..you get my drift.

This time she has tonsillitis and ear infection on top of a cough and cold so we need to add antibiotics to the list above.

Please jump in if you think I’ve missed something!

On the up side it did give me time to add our New range of Enchanted Interiors Nursery Wall Stickers. Have you seen them? They’re pretty special.
